Sunday – Traditional Roast

Today was lovely, I had a lie in and no rush, we were going to Peppa and Owens for a “proper Sunday Lunch”, it was delicious!! I think we have done well food wise with the few things I have to cook with, but you don’t appreciate how much you miss real steamed veg, roast chicken AND lamb, roast potatoes, mashed sweet potato with marshmallows ( you have to try it, believe me) and homemade gravy. You would have thought that we had been starving the kids since we arrived, with the plate full’s they had. It was a lovely day, really easy and a good laugh too, we have said that we will reciprocate when we have our things.

We knew that it was going to be hard when we first arrived, you all asked how we would manage and we said airbeds and with the bits we will take with us, it will all be part of the adventure, I don’t think we really appreciated what it would be like at all. From speaking to people, we know that 90% of immigrants that arrive live exactly how we have (like squatters) and that just seems to be the norm.

We were lucky that we were able to afford to spend some money on a bed and sofa and TV, we would have done mad and I think would have got to the point where we could not walk sleeping as we were (airbeds going down in the night, being flung across the room when Jason turned over), even cooking, I bought a family banquet fry / roaster which is the best money I have spent, it has been a godsend, REALLY, at least my one pan was free for veg if I cooked meat and potatoes in that.

You don’t realise how much you are missing until you have a full meal, like one you would have had, had you been “at home”, but we are still Ok with what we have had, but are relieved that we are on the final countdown for our things.

Meeting people, we are doing everything you would tell your kids not to do, i.e. find people on the internet, get into email chat with them and then agree to meet them - WHAT !!!!!. I imagine it is like a blind date / come speed dating type situation. You email and talk to people on line and it leads to you agreeing to meet, or even pick you up, you have no idea who they are, but you still get in the car with them or meet them somewhere, but it has to be done, if you are cautious you would never meet anyone, we have been lucky so far and have met some lovely people, but even if we weren’t sure about someone would still go along, just in case they introduced us to someone we did click with. It is a strange situation to be in, but meeting others who have done the same is such a relief and so far eveyone we have met has had to do the same.
