On Monday 14th January we had a nice man from Crown Relocations come and go through an inventory of what we would like to take with us, he was very helpful left a brochure with lots of information and advised that they would send a quotation in the post. The quotation includes them coming and doing all the packing, we just leave everything where it is and they will take from the cupboards and drawers, wrap and pack. We just have to ensure we have moved whatever we don’t want them to pack or they will pack that too, also think I will sort out my own undies drawer . They provide all the materials to pack everything and the 20ft container will come to the house and everything loaded here before it sets of to the port. Once the container arrives in Melbourne and has been cleared by customs, they will deliver to the address we will have provided to them, and they will unpack everything and put everything back together. The quotation is £4231.00, they also offer insurance at a cost of either 3.6% or 3.2% of the value of the goods.
I have requested an independent marine insurance quotation from Letton Percival and this is only 1.6% of the value of the goods, provided they are professionally packed, which they will have been, guess who will be getting the insurance business?
Friday 18th we had Dorree Bonner, again he was a nice man, very helpful went through everything and how they pack. They took over a week to get a quote to us, in fact we were of the opinion that they didn’t want the business it took them that long. This quote was £ £3760, but there are a number of things which have been excluded from this quote which need to be added in and compared on a like for like basis.
Monday 21st was John Mason, I think by this meeting we knew what they could pack, how they would pack and what we would need to do, but we sat through the sales pitch anyhow nodding amiably to the poor guy. John Masons quote arrived a couple of days later, it is very good at £3550, again there are a number of things excluded, a like for like comparison is needed here before we decide.
We are now going to read through all the small print in the quotes and decide who to go with, there are then some forms to complete and return, then give them 2 week’s notice of a removal date – can’t do that until we have sold the house though.
