NEWS FLASH

As you all know I have been looking for work since we arrived, ideally just school hours and local without any success. I can work in the CBD but do not want to be that far away from the children and I would have to work full time to cover child care costs, also you need a certificate for virtually everything here, so that has hindered my search. Every week I have looked at the local papers to see what is available locally and also part time and what certificate I need to be able to pursue that line of work.

We have now been reimbursed for the dogs flights and with that money I have enrolled on a course starting on Monday 8th September for 4 weeks, upon successful completion I will be issued with a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Client / Patient Services), this course is designed for those wanting to assist health professionals and care for clients (under supervision). It has been structured with electives for specific support work as well as recommended electives for nursing assistance work in acute care. I will learn how to use basic medical terms, comply with infection control policies and procedures in the health industry and contribute to effective working relationships. Learn how to maintain a high standard of client service, apply first aid and support client care. With this certificate I can apply for jobs as: a nursing assistant, a support worker, a patient service attendant, a wards assistant, a patient support assistant or a care assistant. More or less all the same job, just different titles.

This is a dual course I will also obtain a Certificate III in Aged Care, this course is for those who work or want to work in the aged care sector in a range of residential aged care facilities in the community services and health industry. I will be able to apply for jobs as an Assistant in nursing, support worker, carer, personal care assistant. I will learn about the aged care sector, interviewing and communicating with older people, and providing care and support to older people within residential facilities.

They are nationally recognised certificates and should assist my finding local employment as there are loads of hospitals and nursing homes locally.

The children are on school holidays for 2 of the 4 weeks, so Tom is going to look after them during the day and I have called upon friends and neighbours and Tom for when Sam and Mollie are at school. Fingers crossed that I pass as it has cost us $1890.00 to do this and that I can get a job at the end of it working the part time hours that I need.
