Tom is going to TAFE (Technical And Further Education)

Yippee, he did it, well in all honesty he didn’t have to do much, we had been told that he would have to do a maths test and also have an interview, but on the day it was an informal chat and that was it, It is going to cost us $1187 for the course and that was it, he starts in 8 weeks and is really excited, the course is for 18 months. He had been studying a maths book we had bought him and also sat through some dummy interview questions with Jason and I. He also has some additional maths study that they have given him to do between now and starting to assist when he starts.

He is going to study for the Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering, he knows that it is going to be hard work, but as this is something he is really interested in, hope that he will knuckle down and put everything into this, he will also have Jason to support him, which will help. The teacher said that they usually loose a few students during the summer as they prefer the beach to study. The college is about 15 mins walk to the local beach at Frankston. The college is just behind the railway station, so Tom can get the bus in each morning and come home with Jason on a night, apart from Wednesday when one of us will go through for him as he doesn’t finish until 8.30.

Thanks for this, he is WELL chuffed which is good, he still speaks to his mates on MSM, most have left school, don't have jobs or college places and don't know what they will do, at least he has this.

It is the start of a new mid year intake, so he will make friends as they will all be new to the course. It is going to be hard and he is going to have to put a lot of effort in, but he wants to work in the CBD and is determined to get the qualification. It is the first thing he has ever really been determined about, so fingers crossed.
