Friday – Move Day

Once again we were up at what seemed like the crack of dawn to pick up the hire car at 8 o clock, we had hired a 4 wheel drive in the hope that we would be able to get all our cases and bags in. We did, but to say we struggled is an understatement, we all had bags or a case under our feet and also on our laps, getting each of us into the car was part of the packing process.

Friday was Anzac day and a bank holiday which is one of the reasons we choose to move, as it would give us a long weekend to get ourselves sorted. When Jason and I picked up the car we noticed a lot of the streets were closed for public events and there were police everywhere. As a result of this we decided not to hang about, it is hard enough navigating out of the city without having lots of the streets closed, also as we only wanted to make one journey we knew the car would be overloaded and did not want to risk being stopped.

The sum total of our house move!

We left the Oaks on Market just before 9.30 and set of down the Neapean Highway to Mount Martha, arriving about 10.30; we set straight to and emptied our suitcases, putting away our clothes in a cupboard on the landing as we have no drawers until our furniture arrives from the UK. Jason then blew up our airbeds, we had a single one which we had brought with us, a large queen double depth, which someone at Jason’s work had lent us and we intended to buy another double one.

We then did some more shopping, including an air bed and bought pizza take away before an early night, we were all shattered and needed to be up early again the following day as we were going car hunting and someone was coming to clean the house.

It was the worst night’s sleep I have had in weeks, even worse than being on mum and dad’s pull out bed, air beds and weight differences are not great, when Jason got into the bed my side was raised about an inch, I felt sea sick every time Jason turned over, when he moved I did too, it was far from pleasant, really bumpy too and as we hadn’t figured out how the air con worked properly, I was frozen stupid, I cannot tell you how cold I was, worse than winter in Queensbury, needless to say when we got up on Saturday morning I was less than impressed and not in a great frame of mind.

From this !

To this ! :-(
