A PROPER Farm Shop - Thursday

Peppa rang this morning and said she was going to Aldi in Rosebud as they had some English stuff and did I fancy it. I was going to take a trip to Aldi as I too had noticed that this week’s specials were Heinz beans, and tomato ketchup, HP brown sauce, Tate & Lyle treacle, Bovril, Worcestershire sauce and best of all plain and chocolate hob nobs. Peppa drove and we chattered about schools as we’d had to decide which senior school Sam and Mackenzie were going to, virtually as soon as we arrived. My process was simple, I got Sam to ask his mates where they were going and that was our choice. But Sam is now more settled and his “real” mates are not going to Mornington Secondary but Mount Eliza, so he wants to change to there. Peppa is going to pay for Mackenzie to go to school and he is not impressed at all and also wants to go where is mates are going, she is in a bit of a dilemma at the moment.

While wandering round Aldi I was telling Peppa about Tully’s and that dip, (have mentioned on here before, it is a basil, chilli and tomato dip and it is delicious, expensive, which would be OK but the kids like it too) anyhow all of a sudden this voice piped up with “where’s that” and when we turned round it was an Ozzie woman asking where we were talking about, so I explained and she knew where I meant, which is good. We were stood by the veggies and she told us not to buy from Aldi, but from a local farm shop, which was on Browns road off Boneo road, we thanked her and set off, thank goodness for Tom Toms.

We found the place and it is a farm we should have had our willies, it was a tin hut down a farm dirt track, we were watching the farm workers trim the veggies and wash them, they were then being passed into the shop (tin hut) to be bagged, it was SOOOOOO cheap, I bought a large bag of carrot’s, a huge cauliflower and a bag of sweet potatoes, all for $6.00, it would have been double in Aldi and triple in Woolworths (local supermarket). They are really fresh, seasonal and will last.

We also talked about meat and buying bulk is cheaper and also that our local butchers has a sale between 4 and 5 on a Saturday, now to buy bulk I need a chest freezer, I have a fridge freezer at the moment, but if I get a couple of bags of oven ships in and it is full, it is so small it isn’t worth the title of being a freezer.
