Saturday 19th April - Bombing day

Still some problems getting pictures on the blog ...keep coming back as we may have added more...

Gillian knows us so well, and was not far wrong with her comment, we did struggle to get out of bed on Saturday morning, well I did, Jason set the alarm and did wake up, whereas I just buried my head and ignored him, I really don’t do mornings. Eventually I got out of my pit and we picked up the hire car at 8, only 30 minutes late. Brenda was as helpful as ever and we were very quick as she knows what we like, what insurance we want and also the obligatory GPS so we can navigate ourselves out of the city.

Jason drove back to the apartment where the kids were waiting for us, we told them to be outside for 8.30 and we were only 5 mins late which is pretty good and away we went down the coast to Mount Martha.

First stop was Bunning’s, Oz version of B&Q, kids were not interested so we left them in the car with the air con on, yes it is warm enough to warrant the air con being on while Jason and I had a wander, even though we had only called in for some bombs I wanted to have a good look and it was worthwhile as we found a little table and 2 chairs which would be lovely on our balcony in the sale at $50.00, will be going back for that next week. We eventually found the insect repellent bit and found our bombs, again not badly priced for a pack of 3 and they last 3 months. We just bought the pack and will buy more once we move in and we also need to buy ones for outdoors too. We hadn’t seen too many bugs inside and think they house might have already been de-bugged but this was just as a backup seen as we will be sleeping on the floor until our furniture arrives.

Then to the house, we had a good look round, filled out a form from the management co about any damage and then set off the bombs prior to leaving. We also called in at the sales office to thank John for making the call last week for us and he did say it was a like a recommendation so that call will have gone in our favour. We also took some pics to give you an idea of what it is like inside.

Kitchen with so many cupboards I will never fill them

View from our balcony

The tiled bit is the dining area, the area in fron of that is the family living, with formal living round the corner

John also told us that they’d had fun last Saturday as they did have 2 houses to let, the one we have and another one, open houses had been scheduled and quite a few turned up and were not impressed when they were told that only one house was not available. He said that 2 families were virtually fighting over the one house, they got 3 applications that he knows off and the person who got the rental got it by offering more money, that is how bad the rental market is, we were very lucky

After we had finished at the house and sales office we drove to the beach and took some pics of our local beach and had a wander, then we drove further South to Dromana and Safety beach, it was BEAUTIFUL, really beautiful, the beach and sea were truly amazing, we walked to the end of the pier and could still see the bottom of the sea. It was like a picture postcard, after a wander around here we headed just North of Mount Martha to Mornington where we planned on having lunch.

We went to The Rocks which is right on the harbour http://www.therocksmornington.com.au/index.htm, it was lovely just sat on the balcony watching the boats and fishing, this was quite surreal, it was like being on holiday, because it reminded us of holidays, but it wasn’t and we live here. Anyhow we had a divine lunch, Jason and I shared dips and bread, Tom and Moo had Pizza, I had chicken skewers, Jason had the seafood mixed grill and Sam had a mussel pot cooked in tiger beer, chilli, fresh lime and coconut. Jason and I also shared a bottle of Stumpy Gully pinot Grigio http://www.stumpygully.com.au/, it was a wonderful and very relaxing meal and time we needed really to relax. We also made some friends Derek from Scotland and his wife Jodi, they live in Balnarring which isn’t too far from us although it is on the other coast (you will need to look at a map) and have said that they will have a BBQ when we move in and will give us the ins and outs of the area. We then had a wander on the pier and watched the fishermen and had a look at the boats where you can buy your fresh fish from, something to remember for the future.

A very happy Sam

An even happier Jason's plate, including oysters

Fresh Mussels for sale on the pier

After a very relaxing and rather long lunch and short walk, we went back to the house to clear away the bombs, then headed to the beach so Jason could watch the sun set and get some pics, then back up the coast road to the city, the kids needed an early night and we had arranged to Skype chat with mum and dad.
